Clinton sweeps away competition in Masters’ mock election

Owen Lieber, Sports Editor

In an attempt to bring the current presidential election to the Masters community, Colleen Roche’s political science class conducted a mock election for the entire school. The idea was to simulate every aspect of the election from polling the school, to registering to vote, and actually voting for a candidate. Each grade was given a certain number of electoral votes based on the number of students in the grade. The faculty also participated in the election and was given a number of electoral votes. The assigned electoral votes totalled to 538, just like the real election. Each Masters ballot resembled the official ballot for New York State, listing the four candidates for president: Green Party nominee Jill Stein, Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, Republican nominee Donald J. Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. When the poll came to a close, the result was nowhere near close as Clinton won the Masters mock election taking all 538 electoral votes. In addition, the best voter turnout came from the senior class, where 81.25% of the 96 registered voters cast their ballots. For more statistics from the poll, see below.
