Profile: Michelle Wei
Prior to her sophomore year, Michelle Wei was unsure of herself as a writer.  After following her mom’s advice and encouragement, she took an Introduction to Journalism class, where she discovered journalism was the exact outlet she craved and would go on to write her own blog and join the staff of the school’s newspaper, Tower.

Wei feels journalism gives her the ability to explore controversy and bias, while also taking a straightforward approach that informs the student population. The part of the journalistic process she has taken a particular interest in is determining what is newsworthy and applicable to the student body.

Wei enjoys being on the Tower staff, and was also incredibly passionate about writing for her blog, “Diversity Corner”, which looked at diversity in a private school setting, encouraging students to acknowledge their privilege, and listen to alternative perspectives. Regardless of platform, she has continuously found journalism essential to expressing her voice.
