TBN’s 2024 presidential election coverage took a unique angle intended to be relevant to the circumstances of the majority of our student body. With most of the students unable to vote, TBN chose to cover the story primarily from a nonvoter perspective. We highlighted the efforts of students taking action through an organized letter writing campaign targeted to voting age alumni now in college. We spoke to other students exploring the election and its possible implications and outcomes in class as well as in after school clubs (Election ’24 Club). We included American Studies history teacher Kaci Collins-Jordan to provide a more comprehensive perspective. While this is a sensitive topic for many, we didn’t shy away from showcasing the emotion, and conviction of students and their various efforts to engage in the election and make a contribution.
While American politics can be a touchy subject in our highly polarized society , students at Masters are diving into pressing issues. They believe in the importance of participating in healthy conversations with their peers regarding the two candidates and the countless issues that maintain a tight grip on the minds of every American. Listen to what Zach Gothelf, an American Studies student; Kaci Collins-Jordan; Mason Dwek, head of Election ’24 Club; and Lissie Skrenta have to say. See the issues and values that members of the Masters community hold closest to them.
