Yesterday evening in the Fonseca Center, the Kaleidoscope exhibition’s opening event showcased young student work in the Wenberg Gallery. Work was featured from children ages 7 to 11 who were taught photography skills by juniors Sam Haas and Mason Rosenblatt in partnership with the Don Bosco Community Center.
Haas said, “We started out showing all different photographic techniques, whether it’s focusing on different angles or learning how to take portraits or focusing on different subject matter.”
The program began two years ago when current Interim Chair of the Visual Arts Department Rachel Langosch put Haas and Rosenblatt in touch with Masters alumnus
Charlie Cooper ’23 who had run a similar program during his time at Masters with the community center. The two then reached out to the center to start their own program.
In their second year of running the program, Haas and Rosenblatt said they had a mix of new and returning students. However, this was the first time they had an exhibition for the program at Masters, as last year they held it at the community center.
“We thought it would be nice to have it here at Masters and invite [the students] to come. We could display some of our own work [as well] and show the community,” Haas said.
Each student gets to showcase their own photos along with their portrait and a hand-drawn label of their name.
The exhibition will continue to be on view until Feb. 20.
