“Essential staff” saves school from the aftermath of snow storms
March 11, 2014
While students and teachers have been relaxing throughout the previous snow days, the “essential staff” has been hard at work making sure that everyone can get to their classes safely the next day.
The essential team are a team of staff made to help the school carry on when it snows. “It’s expected that both dining staff and maintenance staff should be on campus on snow days.” Goulian said.
Andy Waild, Director of Operations at ARAMARK, said. “ Dining Hall and maintenance staff are expected to come into school even in potentially dangerous weather to take care of the boarders and the school.”
“If it’s a really bad storm that we can plan for, we usually have the essential staff sleep over at the school,” Al Ghiotti, Plant Maintance Manager, said. “The essential staff will sleep in either the infirmary or on the 4th floor of Eastherwood there is an apartment with 2 beds.”
Chris Goulian, Academic Dean, said the essential team only comes into school to prepare for the next day after the snow day. “The essential staff come in on snow days to feed boarding students, make it possible for everyone to move safely around the school and prepare for the upcoming days.”
With the 57.4 inches that have hit New York City this year, Masters has had five snow days so far.
