At Masters, the mailroom is more than just a place to pick up packages. It’s a place where surprises and adventures unfold every day. Often, the best part of checking the mail isn’t what is inside the box, but the unexpected story you stumble upon along the way.
Boarder Representative, Yehor Shudrenko ‘26 has seen his fair share of mailroom moments. He remembers receiving a pleasant surprise.
“I received a big jug of cheese balls last year, and I didn’t order them. Somebody told me it was a gift, and it was so random.” For Shrudenko, it wasn’t simply about the snack, but the delightful confusion that shows the kind of deliveries that become instant memories.
Other deliveries can be dramatic and alarming in unexpected ways. Mailroom supervisor Christian Belliard has his own list of unforgettable deliveries.
He said, “Someone order[ed] a prop. It was like a sword, but it was kind of real. So I had to actually let security know.” What started as a simple delivery quickly turned into a ridiculous, yet concerning crisis, leaving everyone wondering who on campus needed a sword and why.
For some students, the mailroom offers a more playful form of entertainment. Senior Eileen Kang sees it as an opportunity to know her peers better. She admits she can see a little through the holes in the mailboxes.
She said, ” I don’t know those people that well, but just because their mailbox is next to mine, I sometimes get a glimpse into what’s going on in their lives.” These fragmented glimpses allow her to piece together stories about the people she encounters every day. It’s a harmless, amusing way to feel connected to the boarding community at Masters.
From random cheese balls to almost-real swords, the Masters mailroom has seen it all. It may be just a place where students pick up packages, but it’s also full of stories and surprises that make it a lively spot on campus. As Kang said, the experience remains a simple joy.“I can just drop in, get it [a package], and be happy,” she said.
