For sophomore Emilia Maschang, music has always been an integral part in her life. Growing up, she was surrounded by a diverse array of musicians, which shaped her appreciation for music. Her passion for it blossomed, and a realization of music’s ability to connect with human lives did as well. Stepping into the setting of “Tinier Desk,” Maschang brings a relaxed and joyful energy that shines through her vocals. Accompanied by Derin Barkan‘28 and Ami Bagaria‘28, her natural and rich vocal delivery perfectly complements the soulful essence of Valerie by Amy Winehouse. Maschang first heard the song on “Glee” when she was younger, and was captivated by it – hoping that one day –– she could also bring the melody to life. Now being able to fulfill that dream, she adds her own authentic touch to the song. By mixing the song’s upbeat nature and her vocal warmth, she is able to turn it into an intimate acoustic experience.
