International students worked up a sweat on Sunday, April 6 by preparing a dish to represent their home country. These dishes were served to the boarding community for dinner later that night. International students were able to show the school their country’s culture and traditions through the past weekend by taking part in International Weekend.

Jun Choi, senior and co-president of International club explained why the weekend is the biggest event in the club’s calendar.
“We’ve been planning for international weekend since the beginning of the year,” Choi said. “We started preparing for the event since February by ordering food that the international students wanted to use to represent their country.”

On the first night of the weekend, students attended an International Bazaar. At the event, students set up stands and brought traditional games from their countries. Japanese students brought origami to the bazaar. Chinese students set up a game of matchsticks. Then on the second day of the weekend, students cooked and prepared meals for the dinner later that evening.
Chinese freshman, Cici Song cooked chicken wings and fried rice with other students for the dinner. “I found international dinner really stressful,” Song said. “The kitchen was really crowded and the stove was always busy. But I learnt a lot about different cultures and found out I like food from all over the world.”
The club will be issuing a recipe book filled with all the meals that were cooked on the day. If any attendees would like to cook the meals they saw at the dinner, the book will be found in the admissions lobby.
