Colonel Mustard did it in the library. Or wait, was it Miss Scarlet in the ballroom? This fall, Masters Mainstage takes on the murder mystery “Clue,” where every character is a suspect, and nobody can be trusted.

The play follows suspects under suspicion of killing Mr. Boddy, played by Jesse Ostrom ‘27. The six main suspects are Miss
Scarlet, played by Raven Jarvis ‘27; Colonel Mustard, played by Gemma Gilmartin‘27; Mrs. White, played by Lila Seltzer ‘29;
Mr. Green, played by Vincent Von Jan ‘27; Mrs. Peacock, played by Julia Panos ‘27; and Professor Plum, played by Ash Davis ‘29.

A British butler named Wadsworth, played by Oisin Scully ‘27, hosts the play. Scully added, “A lot of his [Wadsworth’s] stuff is driving the play and the way the other characters kind of bring a lot of the comedy.”

Upper School Theater Director and teacher Beth Manspiezer chose “Clue,” a comedy, for its lighter tone.

“One of the reasons I chose it was because we will be doing “Rent” in the winter and “Macbeth” in the spring, and those are more dramatic, heavier pieces, so I wanted something lighter in the fall,” she said.

The rehearsal process began in early September and has been demanding for everyone involved.

Cast member Raven Jarvis stressed the importance of the costume designers, noting, “The play is so based off of the way we look, and our identities are kind of the whole point.” She continued, “The show isn’t the show without the costumes.”

Jarvis also mentioned the vital work of the tech team. “They put in a ridiculous amount of effort to put the show together,”
she said.

Notably, this year’s cast includes a large number of seniors, helping create a strong group of mentors for less experienced cast members. Jarvis said, “As seniors this year, we’ve been having a really great time getting to know all the younger kids, bringing a bunch of new people into Mainstage and setting up how the theater community is gonna be after we leave.”
