Boys’ basketball obliterates the competition

Triumphant.

The only word one can use to accurately describe the boys varsity basketball teams season this year.  The boys’ varsity basketball team overcame adversity and went on to win the FAA championship despite losing one of their senior captains and a rough couple of games at the beginning of the season. The team won both the league championship, for the first time in 15 years, and the regular season, for the first time since 2009.

The boys finished their season with 18 wins and 6 losses.

Sophomore point guard Josh Bunch said, “I think the main things that allowed us to do so well this year were our two new coaches and our attitude this year. Our two new coaches, Al Pratt and Dytel Bracey, helped us this year with little things that dramatically helped us improve our game, and we all were playing during the offseason.”

Senior Captain Tim Reitzenstein said, “In the beginning of the year we said defense wins championships, so we as a team came together and really improved our defense. That’s why I think we first made it to the league championship, and then went on to win the league championship.”

Halfway through the season, Reitzenstein walked off the court with a broken arm  However, the loss of their captain did not hurt the team but rather propelled them further. “It gave us  even more of a reason to go all the way and to finish our season first in the division,” Bunch said.

Assistant Varsity Coach Tom Wethington said, “Losing Tim, one of our leading scorers and rebounders, was a tough transition for us as a team.  However, I think the way we rebounded after Tim went out was amazing.  We were not only able to collect ourselves, but we were also able to still finish the season accomplishing our two goals that we had set in the beginning of the year, which were to win the regular season and to win the league championship.”
