This is the final part to our three-part series on Affirmative Action. This piece includes an interview with director of college counselor, Adam Gimple and Shaza Murigande, co-leader of ONYX. Azariah Charles sits down with special guest Adam Harris, award winning journalist, and author of The State Must Provide to talk about Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCU impact on the community and the effects of discontinuing Affirmative Action has had on college applicants.

Zara Suvanto
Zara Suvanto, TBN Executive Producer

Zara Suvanto, a senior, and the Co-Executive Producer of Tower Broadcast for the 2023-2024 academic school year.  Suvanto’s interest for broadcast journalism began with watching Erin Andrew’s on TV during the 2021 Super Bowl and aspiring to be just like her. From there, she joined the intro to broadcast class her junior year. In just one year, she showcased her ability to edit, interview, and create dozens of stories.

Throughout her time on TBN, Suvanto has attended the NSPCA awards where she earned the title of an award-winning student journalist. She is beyond grateful to be continuing her journalism career at Syracuse, Newhouse.

When not in the Tower Lab working on a segment, you can find Suvanto on the basketball and tennis courts. She is also on the stage dancing hip hop with her student led dance group, MUSE.

Azariah Charles
Azariah Charles, TBN Executive Producer
Azariah Charles is an award winning journalist and is only just getting started as she is only a sophomore. She currently serves as the youngest Executive Producer. She started last year as a Freshman in the intro to broadcast journalism class and decided to continue it. She has a love for English and enjoys reading books in her free time. Azariah not only has a deep love for English and Journalism but also for sports. She is a well rounded athlete playing volleyball, basketball, and running track. She hopes in the future to become a sports commentator just like Holly Rowe so that she can incorporate her passion for sports and journalism together.
