The brutal weather in the last few weeks has felt nothing like the start of spring; it has been bitterly cold, windy and there have been days where it has rained and even snowed for hours on end. These incidents have hurt the Track and Field Team as they have found the condition of the track, on countless occasions, not suitable for training. This disaster is paired with the fact that the team utilizes the Old Croton Harmon Aqueduct (OCA) for distance practice. The Aqueduct can remain muddy for days after a weather incident, certainly making matters even less ideal.

The team’s first two events have been postponed due to a combination of rain and cold temperatures, including the much anticipated Masters Relays, which was scheduled for Saturday, April 7. The event would have featured relay events and was expected to be a heated day of completion.

While members of the team are certainly frustrated about not being able to compete, they are trying to remain positive and do what they can in the meantime. Freshman Joseph Diaz explained, “We’ve been doing a lot of difficult workouts, such as 800 and 1000 meter repeats. We’re trying to get our endurance up and get our times on pace. The extra time has definitely helped, and while the training has been hard, I feel like we’re getting in a good workout and getting more in shape. We should be set up for a good season”

We can all only hope that Mother Nature cooperates in the coming days, as Masters will take part in the pivotal Nanuet Relays this Saturday, followed by an away meet against rival Hackley next Tuesday, April 17.
