Boys Varsity Soccer takes down Riverdale in NYSAIS Semi-Finals

In a closely-matched competition, the boys varsity soccer team defeated Riverdale Country School by a score of 2-0 in yesterday’s NYSAIS semi-finals game. The Panthers opened the scoring early in the first half with a goal from senior Daniel Medina, who found his way in behind Riverdale’s back line before calmly slotting the ball past the opposing goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Much of the contest would remain defensive until senior captain Kyle Benson scored a penalty kick in the final minutes of the game, all but sealing the victory and their ticket to the championship game.

Despite the cold temperatures, the home-field advantage was tangible throughout the course of the entire game, as hundreds of students, faculty, and parents came out to cheer on the team. The players were evidently grateful for the support, running over to the bleachers to show their appreciation for the fans once the game ended. The team will face off against Hackley School in the NYSAIS finals tomorrow at Manhattanville College at 5:30 in perhaps their biggest game in the last half-decade.
